Personal Branding
The Challenge
I’ve never had personal branding that I love. It’s a big challenge as a designer with a graphic design background, there’s a lot of (self imposed) pressure to figure out the perfect mark.
I explored a lot of different concepts, some more symbolic some more literal. I thought sought out inspiration from my home, Seattle, and my personal history. I have a lot of different interests and it can be hard to determine something that didn’t feel too abstract or too specific.
The Inspiration
In late 2017, I went to my favorite tattoo artist Randi Fitzpatrick, for a consultation. In true form, I decided to get some of Randi’s available flash on a whim. I picked this little moth from a see of illustrations, I quickly decided that it I would like it to be placed on my hand, like it had landed there.
If you’ve ever gotten a hand tattoo, they are notorious for fading and blurring due to how often we wash our hands and exposure to the elements. After a couple months, my little moth had faded quite a bit. I reached out to Randi for a touch-up and requested that they add some ornamental detail.
The result was fantastic, quite possibly my favorite tattoo that I have.
The Result
A logo that feels personal to me and I actually love.
